Well it's that time of year again! Who's excited? With all the fun activities that come with the sunshine and warm weather it's really important to protect our skin from the sun. I re-watched a video I seen last year about UV rays and skin and after watching it again I knew I wanted to make a post about the importance of sunscreen. Here's the video in case you wanted to check it out. It's about 3 minutes and trust me, it's pretty cool!
Did you watch it? What did you think? Crazy, hey?!
So for those of you who don't know, there's a difference between sunblock and sunscreen
Sunblocks, such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, are highly effective in protecting against both UVA and UVB rays, the types of UV radiation that cause sunburn and skin cancer. Sunblocks often appear white on the skin. Sunscreens tend to be less visible on the skin and absorbs UV rays and does not reflect them
Here's an article all about it if you're interested!
Sun screen is my ride or die. I wear it even in the winter. After years of trying different ones I found a few of my favourites and I'll share those with you later on in this post.
I'm going to cover just a few reasons why you should be wearing sun screen and it's importance so let's get right into it.
1. Sunscreen has proven to slow down the process of wrinkles and premature ageing skin.
2. Sunscreen has also been proven to decrease the growth of skin cancer.
3. Prevents sunburns and tanning - I'm sure we all knew that.
4. Helps even out your skin tone
5. Great for hydrating the skin.
I have three sunblocks that I use almost every day. I have one for my face and two others for my body.
So for my face I'll use Neutrogena Clear face SPF 30
I don't know about you but I get a bit of anxiety putting new products on my face. I have pretty clear skin and would really like to keep it that way. I tried this sunblock while I was home alone one weekend and no breakouts or texture came to my face. I even put make up on over top and went outside. I had no signs of burning and it didn't make my make-up move which is just an added bonus! I purchased this for $14 at Shoppers Drug Mart
The next product I use is Sunbum SPF 50
First off, Yum! This smells so good to me! This product is a sunscreen and I use it all over my body if I'm going out. I've used this for years and I have no complaints expect one, I can only ever find travel sizes so I'm constantly repurchasing this at least 3 times every summer. Part of me doesn't mind because it works so well. I paid a little over $10 for mine. Give this little beauty a try. I'm sure you'l love it.
Last but of course not least we have Coola- sport SPF 30 This product is suppose to be organic but I don't care about that, yeah yeah shoot me. moving on.. This one is my go to mostly because it smells so fantastic but a little bit goes a long way which I love. I do find myself having to re-apply every other hour which isn't so bad since I do the same with my other block, I just find it wears off faster than the others but it's still my favourite! I paid $36 for this at Ulta online. Coola also has amazing lip balms and other great sun protection products. If you can, go smell a few haha you won't be disappointed.
Alright that's it. Those are my must have sunblocks and screens. Don't forget to further protect your skin by wearing hats and keeping hydrated. Stay healthy this summer, everyone! Xxoo - Katie
Hey everyone!! It's been forever since I've done a favourites post so I'm pretty excited right now and I hope you are too! I've only been loving a few products this month so this post wont be too long I just wanted to share my new loves with you! So lets get started! BEAUTY FAVOURITES 24 Hour Revlon Colorstay Foundation "I'm addicted and I just cant get enough!" Lyrics just get me sometimes... For a drug store brand, this foundation is FANTASTIC! It stays where you apply it and has amazing coverage. It never leaves my skin feeling dry or oily and it stays on forever! Don't skip washing your face when you wear this foundation. It stays on so well that your pores wont be able to breathe. Wash that face! Don't be lazy!
Real Techniques Buffing Brush This brush is God sent! Its my "go to" brush for my foundation and so far I swear by it. I favour this brush over my others because the short bristles really help you work your foundation into your skin for a flawless finish. Anther reason why I love this brush so much is it's durability. I'm tough on my brushes and go through them quite quickly but this one has stayed in tact and I'm pretty happy about that!
Revlon Photoready Pressed Powder -Translucent So this is the first time I've tried Revlons translucent powder and I'm in love. I'm privy to their photoready powder in medium but because it's summer I don't want to have a heavy amount of make up on and I feel like this translucent powder allows my skin to breathe a little better then their pigmented powders. Maybe I'm wrong but I'm just going by how my skin feels during the day. this powder has shimmer in it so once applied it, the shimmer will catch in the light and highlight your natural features. You don't have to worry about reapplying this product. I
t hugs to the colorstay foundation and creates a flawless matte finish.
Goody Ouchless Elastics If you have thick hair, then you already know.. These are a miracle! I've been loving these pony tails for years. I go through them so fast, mostly because I lose them or they eventually break. Anyway, most pony tails break in my hair instantly but these last quite a long time and they don't have a metal connector so no more hair being pulled out! They're called ouchless for a very good reason! Try these out! I'm so sure you''ll love them just as much as I do!
Goody Medium Claw Clips When applying my make up or styling my hair, I grab these clips. When applying my make up I clip my hair behind me to keep it out of the way. When I style my hair I like to use these clips to keep my hair sectioned. I find the medium clips to be the perfect size for my thick hair. they stay secured and hold my hair in place extremely well. If you want an easy half up hair style, pick up these clips or if you just want your hair out of your face I recommend them for that as well.
MUSIC FAVOURITES Currently LOVING Kat Dahlia! I think I'm in love again. I'm addicted to this song and can't get enough, it's constantly on replay or playing in my head. I think what I love most about this song is the fact that it's so relatable. I think a lot of us ave had that moment of "Here we go again." and this song captures it pretty well. give it a listen. I think you'll enjoy it just as much as I do.
Lets be honest for a second........ we all have those moments when were jamming out to a song and we get right into it, to the point where you pray to God that no one is watching you.. For me that song is BBHMM By Rihanna. Seriously, guys I dont know what comes over me when I hear this song but for some reason I think I'm Rihanna and I try to be as tough as she is but lets be real for another second..I'm not. but there's no shame in having fun and thats what I do. I have to say though, this song is NOT for everyone! Especially the video, It's NSFW and watch at your own discretion
And that's all I have for you guys this month. Not a lot of favourites but definitely good ones. What have you been loving this Month? Make sure to tell me down below! Happy FriYAY Everyone! Xxoo- Katie
Breaking up SUCKS! But it's something we all have to go through sometime or another. So here are 6 tips that I find can help you get over your break up and help you move on!
Social Media This might be the most dangerous place to be while going through a break up. Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are the internet's hottest places to be. Everyone has an account on one or all of these social media's so figuring out what he/she is doing is so easy it's scary! My advice is to just STAY OFF SOCIAL MEDIA! You're going to see something you don't like and it's going to drive you mad. give your self 4 to 7 days without social media. Time to yourself is good anyway! Friends Friends are here for a reason so don't forget about them! They generally know you best so confiding in them will be easy and comfortable and they probably know just what you need to make you feel better and will help you through every stage of the break up! Be Sad Giving yourself time to be sad is crucial. Give yourself a two week time frame and say "Okay. This sucks but I have to deal with it." That two week time frame is your time to let it all out and heal. It's also a good time to figure out your next move. Write About It There hasn't been one time in my life that I was unhappy at myself for writing something down. whether it's a song, poem, journal entry, or a letter to him/her you'll never send, just write it down. Writing is a no judgement zone. No one can interrupt you and make you feel bad for the emotions your having, because you're probably feeling a lot of them at this point. It's a great release. and sometimes looking back at the writing can make you happy because you get to see where you were and how far you've come when you read it.
Break Up Hair So I've done this once before and two of my friends do it every time they go through a break up. They either cut their hair or colour it. personally I cut 4 inches off. Changing your hair can be kind of scary and it's not for everyone but it's nice in the sense that you no longer look the way you did in the relationship. new chapter new you! Keep Busy Don't sit in your room all day and night crying and eating brownies. Do that during your two weeks of being sad period. focus on trying new things, making more time for the things you love. do what you can to make sure the break up is not the only thing you're thinking about. Break ups suck but the hurt won't last forever. every break up leads you closer to the one you're suppose to be with and every relationship will teach you something about yourself or the world. so yes be sad but be hopeful and open minded for the future. the best things are yet to come! Hope these 6 tips help you out should you ever need them! Let me know what you think in the comments below!
Am I the only person who feels like December comes and goes way too fast?
With that being said, I don't have many favourites this month but the ones I do have, I think are pretty great so lets just get into it! Beauty Favourites Chi Silk Infusion Hair Serum Hair serum is a product I have become best friends with over the years and I think any girl with long and or thick hair can say the same thing.Over the years I have come to find that the more money I spend on a serum, the better the results especially with serums that contain argon, moringa, and Moroccan oils. Not only do I adore the results I get from this serum but the smell is so warm and rich it lasts in your hair all day. I continuously get compliments on it which always results in me raving about it for a good half hour but do not worry, I won't keep you here for that long on just this one product! I like to apply a quarter sized amount into towel dried hair, blow dry and then apply a little less than a dime sized amount onto the ends of my hair. I'm sure there is a better way to apply the product to get amazing results but this is what works for me. my hair is shiny, silky, and frizz free which is so amazing when you have long thick hair like me! Now with all the amazing qualities this product has the only downfall I have with it is the price I pay around $32 for the large bottle which is a lot of money to me but the bottle will last me over a year so in the end it's not all that bad.
Next up we have a Beauty Blender but this is not the original it is just a dupe. but honestly it works just the same! So to help any one who doesn't understand how this works, it's a foundation applicator that works when you get it wet. The Beauty Blender helps anyone achieve perfectly and evenly blended foundation. I Use the Beauty Blender dupe so mine works just a little different that the original, but that is to expected. The dupe holds more water which means adding more foundation to get an even coverage but just like the Beauty Blender it cuts your blending time in half which I really appreciate haha! An original Beauty Blender is about $20 where as my dupe was about $7. I don't mind a little extra work when I save some money especially when the two products are so similar. Cleaning this product is really simple too. I use soap and warm water just like I do for all my make up brushes and it only takes about 2 minutes to clean!
BH Cosmetics automatic eyebrow pencil - Blonde
The photo says black but I use the shade blonde. I've really been loving this brow pencil not only this month but pretty much every month and I've talked about it here on my blog before. The product is angled so you can get precision and its nicely pigmented so you don't have to go over your lines a bunch of times. What I like most about this brow pencil is the fact that it stays where I put it. the formula is so thick that it never runs off your face and even stays when applied over foundation. A few other things I like about this is not just the staying power on your skin but the longevity of the product itself. I fill in my brows every single day and I am no where close to having to buy a new brow pencil. I've been working with this one for over a year. I would recommend this to pretty much anyone because the price is just as great as the product I paid no more than $8 on the BH Cosmetics website.
Baby Lips - Grapevine Anyone who knows me and my make up collection knows how much I love Baby Lips and how many I own. They smell good, have a mild taste, last long and moisturize very well, and like always the price is pretty amazing too! these run for about $3-$4 and you can find them at any department store and in any make up isle. I have been wearing the shade Grapevine this month and every time I apply it I cant help but stare at my lips because in the tube the colour looks really dark and pigmented but once applied it's shiny and gives off the same colour as in the tube but with a glossy finish so it's not actually that dark which I love and have never found a lip balm to give off that effect! Baby Lips are perfect for the girls who don't want something heavy on their lips just a sheer bit of colour or shimmer. If I'm not wearing lipstick I'm most likely wearing something from Baby Lips. From scents like tangerine shock to peppermint there is a baby lips for everyone. Try this out if you love simplicity and tasty smelling lip products! haha
Non Beauty Favourites
Tetley Mint Green Tea
As I type this I currently have a cup of this tea beside me. I love green tea and mint tea is my favourite so having them together makes me oddly excited. I have been drinking this non stop all month and I have no plans to stop! What I love most about this tea is the smell. Have you ever had those spearmint leave candies? Well this smells exactly like those. The smell instantly wakes you up and the first sip is always so refreshing. I find that this tea has a perfect balance of the green tea and mint so you can really enjoy both flavours especially when you let the tea steep and leave the bag in while you drink it the flavours never become overwhelming or bitter which I find happens quite a bit with other teas especially if you don't use milk and sugar like me. If you like mint and green tea separately then definitely give this one a try and don't forget to tell me what your thoughts are!
Elf
One of the funniest and sweetest Christmas movies around and the only movie with Will Ferrell that I actually like (I know, what's wrong with me?) This movie always makes me laugh no mater how many times I watch it. and I really love how positive the movie is. Buddy is always SO happy and I find that his positive energy reaches out to the people watching the movie and makes everyone smile! How can you not love that? If you have yet to watch this movie, go grab a drink and a snack, rent, stream or borrow this movie and thank me later! ;)
Our Collection So this month I won't be talking about my favourite songs but a new group that has recently started recording and uploading covers to Youtube. Despite the fact they have just recently started sharing their music with the world, these 3 have have all been friends and playing music together for quite sometime. Katie - Singer Jamie - Bass And Jowl - Guitar ( If I'm not mistaken haha) are Our Collection and create covers of old classics and upload regularly which is pretty fantastic for their viewers. In my opinion Katie's voice puts a modern twist on the songs which makes them not only refreshing to listen to but still brings back the memories each song gave too you while listening to the originals! I say well done Our Collection here are two of their YouTube videos which I think shows off their range of musical talents! I hope you love them just as much as I do, and if you do, don't forget to show them some love by liking, subscribing, and even sharing their music with your friends and family like I'm doing right now! Wild Horses
Zombie

All Right Readers! It's time for my first ever Favourites blog! What better time to make a favourites blog then, in the first month of your blog, right? So I'm going to break this down into two categories. We'll start with Beauty favourites and then finish with non beauty favourites So, here we go!!
Beauty Favourites! So, this product Iv'e actually had for a while now but this month I've used it pretty much everyday that I've worn make-up and its the naturally gorgeous 524 palette from Hard Candy. I've used very shade in this palette, although some the shadows are not very pigmented, they all have a great shimmer! I love to apply the lighter shadows all over my lid for when I just want a little colour or shimmer. I use the darker colours over top of a smoky eye, to add shimmer and to make my smoky eye "pop" I also use them to smoke out my lower lash line!
The next product I want to talk about is mascara! I'm currently loving Voluminous Power Collagen mascara my L'oreal. I use blackest black, number 681. This is by far one of the best drug store mascara brands I've ever used. This mascara coats my lashes completely, makes them look fuller and longer. Coming from a girl that coats on her mascara, You don't need to with this! 2 coats max is all you need. I am sooooo in love this with mascara. I could write a whole blog post on it! please stop over to your local drug store and give this mascara a try! I know you'll love it!
Next up Snooki Couture by Nicole Polizzi
OH MY GOSH!
This perfume is life! As you can see my bottle is a little worn out, and that's because I carry it with me where ever I go! When I first got this perfume I didn't expect to like it this much, since I had never smelt it before, The second I seen the adorable and trendy packaging and after I sprayed it, I was HOOKED! This perfume smells like sandalwood, oranges, fun and summer! I can't completely explain it but it's phenomenal. I always get complements when I wear this perfume. Not only does this smell amazing but the scent lasts all day long! I never need to reapply this perfume. It always smells like I just applied it. On top of it always smelling freshly applied, it never smells like alcohol! I can't stand that with fragrances and I find that this one doesn't at all. I Like to call that a Beauty Bonus! Here's a link to buy her perfume! Snooki Couture By Nicole Polizzi
Summer is coming to an end. which I'm excited about. Fall is my favourite season! But my heart does have a special place for summer. So when summer starts to come to an end, I like to apply my Jergens natural glow self tanner. I use shade fair to medium. I really like this formula. It applies nice, evenly and doesn't leave me all streaky or sticky. It also smells nice which is a nice change from the other self tanning lotions I've used. This self tanner help keep my fading summer tan, look a little more fresh, and obviously make it look like it hasn't faded at all. I use about two of these all summer so if you try this out, and like it, I recommend purchasing two like I do.
Nivea is one of my favourite lip product to use and Iv'e been using the Raspberry Rose lip butter all month long. It's so moisturising, adds a bit of colour and it smells like arm raspberries. #Delicious I'm actually wearing this lip butter as I type this blog post! If you're like me and are not a big fan of lip gloss, but want a little something more on your lips, I would recommend this. I picked mine up at Wal-Mart for just a few dollars, So go check out your local drug stores and beauty isles for this lip product must!
Non Beauty Favourites!
The new TMNT movie!! I went to the theatre with my boyfriend to see this a few weeks ago! although the story line of how the turtles came to be was super awful, It was still a phenomenal movie and I will be purchasing it when it comes to DVD. I watched this movie in 3D, which I actually didn't like because I hate wearing the glasses. But besides those who things, It was great, funny and suspenseful! Give this movie a watch and let me know what you thought of it
Going with the TMNT theme, recently my boyfriend went on a business trip and when he came back he bought me a TMNT tumbler. This is probably one of the cutest things ever and I use it quite a bit. It's actually right beside me filled with water! What I like most about this tumbler is the fact that it's small enough to carry around but big enough to hold enough water that will last me for a while and it doesn't leak!!!! Finally a travel container that doesn't leak! This may be in my August favourites but I'm pretty sure I'll be using it all year round!
My next non beauty favourite is a book by John Green. The Fault in Our Stars.
Iv'e read this book a total of six times and each time I cry and cry and cry and I can't stop! This book is brilliant and although I have yet to see the movie, I know it will be just as beautiful as the book. I've also read Looking for Alaska which is another novel by John Green. That book was also wonderfully written but I have to say TFIOS is my Favourite! Give this book a read. and be sure to have a box of Kleenex near by!
So this song is about two years old but I've recently remembered how much I loved it then and now I love it even more. Christina Aguilera - Your Body Her looks, sound, and the video are incredible, colourful and eye catching! I love this Song!
Another song that I've really been enjoying is one that Iv'e recently found on 8tracks and that's The Icarus Account - Favourite Girl. This song is so adorable. I love all the words and the music. This song is also a few years old but it's still great! definitely give this song a go and let me know what you think
